Sacre Coeur Basilica Paris

 

The Basilica of the Sacred Heart was built between 1875 and 1919 in Montmartre, one of the most popular areas of Paris.

 

From there, you can enjoy one of the best views of the capital. And of course, it is above all a sacred place of worship that was built on great religious principles.

From 1789, France had known a difficult social and political atmosphere increased by its defeat in the Franco-Prussian war in 1870. The French associated this bad context with a punishment from God. 

They built the Sacred Heart of Jesus Basilica hoping they would be forgiven by God.

 

The eclectic style of the basilica is inspired by the Romanesque and Byzantine architecture. 

Paul Abadie was chosen duing a competition to be the architect of the basilica. After his death in 1884, he was replaced by Honoré Daumet with the intervention of the glass painter Emile Hirsch.

Finally, the Sacre Cœur Basilica is considered as one of the most beautiful monuments in Paris.
