Cantini Museum Marseille

The Cantini Museum is a museum of modern and contemporary art located in the Grignan Street in Marseille.

Previously, it was a mansion built in 1694 for the “Compagnie du Cap Nègre”. It had a few different owners until Jules Cantini acquired it in 1888. In 1916, he donated the building to the city of Marseille that turned it into a museum dedicated to the contemporary art of our time. It was opened to the public in 1936.

This museum has got one of the most important modern art collections in France. The Cantini Museum experienced a phase of renovation on the occasion of Marseille Provence 2013 to preserve the works better and to offer more comfort to the visitors. Thus, since February 15, 2013, the museum opened its doors again for the pleasure of the visitors who can enjoy its large collection in the best conditions.

The main themes are Fauvism, Cubism, Post-Cubism and Abstraction of the 1930s, Surrealism and Abstraction of the 1950s and 1960s. Finally, many exhibitions are planned for MP2013.

We would be happy to welcome you in the New Hotel Vieux Port ideally located in the city centre of Marseille!
