The National Naval Museum
Opening after renovation work scheduled for 7th March! Since 1981 the National Naval Museum can be found in one of the few historical sites of the city that have survived World War II, near the clock tower of the arsenal.
The door at the entrance in the Naval Museum is the Monumental Door of the Arsenal. Built in 1736 and finished in 1738, it is decorated with two statues: Mars, god of war, and Minerva, goddess of intelligence and strategy.
Thematic areas retrace the activity of the Toulon arsenal starting with the second half of the XVIIe century.
After the renovation work you will discover the following new features:
a space dedicated to Vauban and the very first arsenal, the labour camp of Toulon with a reconstruction of the hospital of the labour camp, the Franco-Russian alliance and the diplomatic gifts, a focus on the Navy during the World War II and the Navy of today, built at a first stage around submarines and aircraft carriers.
Open daily except Tuesday from 10h to 18h. Closed in January. Free for children under the age of 18 and under the age of 26 for Europeans!
