The Victorian Masterpiece Exhibition Paris
From 13/09/2013 to 20/01/2014
The Jacquemart-André Museum will be hosting the Victorian Masterpiece Exhibition called "Desire and Sensuality". It will present the 19th century’s English Victorian artists.
In those days, Great Britain was the leading world power and a new artistic movement was developping.
The artists were then celebrating the cult of beauty.
This movement is opposed to the period’s rigid moral precepts and to Puritanism.
Women are at the centre of the works in which their sensuality is represented. This type of naked art is a symbol of freedom.
Besides, the paintings’ landscapes and dreamlike sceneries are full of symbolism.
In this exhibition, you will find famous Victorian works of art such as The Roses of Heliogabulus bu Alma Tadema, Young girls picking up pebbles by the sea by Leighton or Andromeda by Poynter.
Big names in English Victorian art will be presented such as Edward Burne Jones, Albert Moore, Charles Edward Perugini, Dante Gabriel Rossetti or William Clarke Wontne.
If you are planning to stay in the capital, you can choose one of our hotels in Paris. They are perfectly located close to the symbolic places and to the public transport.
