The Chaissac - Dubuffet exhibition - Paris

From 27/05/2013 to 28/09/2013

The « Chaissac - Dubuffet, between pens and brushesexhibition (“Chaissac - Dubuffet, entre plume et pinceau”) is taking place in Paris at the Postal Museum.

This exhibition presents and explains nearly 150 works between modern rustic art and raw art. These works are Gaston Chaissac’s and Jean Dubuffet’s. These artists’ collaboration was an opportunity for them to create innovative works of art.

But their complicity went much further. In fact, they exchanged 400 letters about their opinions on art, about their hopes, their disappointments and their passions.

Their relationship was mainly based on a correspondence that lasted until Chaissac died in 1964. Both painters thought that art should be free from any rule. That is why they gave a new vision of art based on the use of worthless materials that they transformed and then used to create works of art.
