Cesar Exhibition Marseille
From 14/09/2013 to 16/03/2014
On the occasion of Marseille-Provence 2013, the European Capital of Culture hosts the exhibition of a local sculptor, César Baldaccini, better known as César (1921-1998).
He is best known by the general public as the creator of the "Cesars", statuettes given to French Cinema professionals to greet the best productions.
Major artist of the 20th century, his sculptures are now exhibited in the Cantini museum. This exhibition gathers together thirty of his works such as compressions, welded irons or the famous Cesar's thumb that were donated by the artist to the city of Marseille. Other pieces have been loaned for the occasion by the FRAC (Regional Contemporary Art Fund) and some private collectors.
Besides his creations, you can also discover César through an interview projected during the exhibition. It is another way to know the artist personality and his southern accent.
