The story of the « Pasteur Institut » of marseille – 1893

On July 4, 1885 Louis Pasteur vaccinates successfully against the rage the young shepherd Joseph Meister
.
In the weeks which follow, the Town council and the General Council of the “Bouches du Rhone” express the wish to create in Marseilles a center of anti-rabic inoculation. Professor Charles Livon is appointed to contact Louis Pasteur.
This last agrees to receive him in its laboratory to show him the method of vaccination but refuses that Livon opens a center in Marseilles.
It is only in 1893 that the anti-rabic institute of Marseilles is opened. It will be the first anti-rabic institute of France, except Paris. Inaugurated in 1893 by Doctor Livon (born in 1850), Principal of medicine in Pharo. This school becomes faculty in 1930 before being transferred to Timone in 1958.
